About Me
OLT TAMÁS
Olt Tamás is an actor, director, playwright, translator, and a versatile creator of contemporary Hungarian theatre. He received his acting degree in 2006 in László Babarczy's class in Kaposvár, then in 2022 he earned a master's degree in cultural institution management and marketing at the University of Arts in Târgu Mureș; he is currently pursuing doctoral studies at the same institution. Throughout his career, acting experience, directorial thinking, and writing his own stage texts have developed as mutually reinforcing creative fields.

Among the defining achievements of his oeuvre are his musical theatre works inspired by the oeuvres of Attila József and Miklós Radnóti, as well as the works Abszint, Szájon lőtt tigris, Korai menyegző and Minden jegy elkelt. His plays have also been published in English, French and Romanian translations, while his productions have been staged outside Hungary in Ukraine, Romania and the United States. As an actor, he has appeared in numerous leading roles, including Liliom, Lopahin, Arnolphe, Simon Péter, Conferencier and Henry VIII.
His work has received numerous awards, including the Mensáros Award and the Grand Prize of the Kaleidoszkóp Poetry Festival, and among many other professional awards, he received the Jászai Mari Award in 2024.
At the heart of his creative mission is the living, communal encounter of theatre. As a writer, he creates texts that naturally come to life through the actor's voice; as a director, he believes in equal creative collaboration. Through his works, he seeks to respond sensitively, with humour and musicality, to personal and social questions, while engaging the audience with human situations that invite further reflection. „The decision is ours.

Directing and Writing
As a director and writer, I am also actively creating: I have written more than twenty original plays that have been staged, two of which have also been adapted for television. In addition, I regularly translate contemporary plays into Hungarian, and I have also worked on film and television productions as an actor, director and screenwriter.

”
I believe that Hungarian youth and children's drama literature needs to be enriched, and that classical and contemporary literature should be brought closer to young audiences. This endeavor is also at the heart of my current creative work.
